Visiting a Foreign Country

My sweet cousin absolutely adores traveling. Every year, she and her family go on multiple vacations. Recently, my cousin and her daughter vacationed in the Dominican Republic. Almost immediately after her beach trip, my adventurous relative and her husband traveled to Paris. Would you like to visit a foreign country for the first time this year? Consider hiring an experienced travel agent to help you plan a vacation you’ll be talking about for years to come. On this blog, I hope you will discover the benefits of consulting with a travel agent before traveling abroad for the first time. Enjoy!

3 Things To Know Before Your First River Rafting Trip

by Noah Mitchell

If you love the water and you're in search of an exhilarating and exciting activity to liven up your next vacation or free weekend, river rafting might be just the thing that you've been searching for. It's challenging, but you'll find that river rafting is a fun and rewarding hobby if you give it a try. Take a look at a few things that you need to know before your first river rafting trip.

Start With a Guided Trip

Don't try river rafting for the first time by yourself or even just with a friend who's done it a couple of times before. Book an experienced guide who will make sure that your first time out is safe and fun. If your first river rafting experience is positive, you'll be much more likely to want to repeat the experience, and you'll have plenty of time to learn how to venture out on your own if you choose to.

Additionally, river rafting guide services will often provide you with rafting gear and wetsuits, saving you the trouble of renting them separately or investing in buying your own equipment before you've decided whether or not rafting is the hobby for you.

Pack Plenty of Sunscreen

Waterproof sunscreen is something that you'll have to remember to bring yourself, and it's important. You may not feel like you're risking a burn while the water is splashing on you as you navigate the river rapids, but you'll definitely feel the burn later on if you don't protect yourself.

Remember that you can still burn even if the sun is hidden by clouds. You're also more vulnerable to a burn when you're near water, because it's a reflective surface. Be safe and don't skip the sunscreen.

Know Your Swimming Strength

Even with a great guide, you could end up in the water at some point during a river rafting excursion – that's one of the reasons why it's exciting! However, if you want to stay safe, it's important that you be honest about your strength as a swimmer. If you're not a good swimmer or you're out of practice, make sure that your guide knows about it.

Pay close attention to your guide's instructions, because one of the things they'll let you know is which way to swim if you do end up in the water. And don't forget to periodically check your lifejacket and make sure the straps are tight – they can loosen as you move around when you paddle, and you'll need to tighten them back up to ensure that you're safe if you end up in the water.

With a little preparation, you'll have an enjoyable first river rafting trip, and you may even gain a whole new hobby.
